July 30, 1932 — October 12, 2018

Abedon "Abie" Ortiz passed away peacefully at home on Friday, October 12, 2018 at the age of 86.   He was born in San Jose, New Mexico on July 30, 1932 to Adolfo and Petrita Ortiz.  Abie was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Patricio, his two sisters; Eumelia Montano, and Dora Rivera.

Abie is survived by his wife of 67 years Guadalupe Ortiz; sons; Sonny Ortiz and wife Tina, Jose Ortiz and wife Kate, Henry Ortiz and wife Annamarie; daughters: Betty Torrez and husband Gilbert, Cindy Martinez and husband John, Rebecca Marquez and husband Joe, Lila Garcia and loving companion Walter Garcia, 41 grandchildren, 75 great-grandchildren, and 11 great- great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers: Joe Manuel Ortiz  and wife Betty, Rudy Ortiz and loving companion Betty; three sisters; Elisia Bustamante, Tommie Bustamante and husband Robert, and Ida Guppy.

He was a devout parishioner of Saint Anne's Catholic Church for 55 years and was a choir member and usher.  He was also a Eucharistic Minister and would take communion to the home bound and to those in the hospital. Abie was also involved with the Encuentro Prison Ministry and was an Hermano with the Morada de Nuestro Senor de Esquipula.

Abie and his wife met when they were 18 years old in 1950 and were married one year later on March 31, 1951. They moved to Albuquerque, then Colorado Springs back to San Jose and finally settled in Albuquerque.  He worked several jobs working with the railroad and construction. in 1964 Abie went to work as a plumber at Sandia Labs where he was employed there for 30 year until his retirement in 1994. Abie was the happiest when he was working.  He kept busy working at each of his children's homes where he left them with very special memories. If you told him you were thinking about doing something at your home, he would start drawing up plans and would be at your home bright and early the next day.

Abie started to get sick around 2014. He was in and out of the hospital and was in rehab on separate occasions. On September 23, 2018 Abie was put on hospice at his home where is family took care of him, along with Ambercare. We were very pleased with the care Ambercare gave our dad.  He passed away peacefully on October 12, 2018.
