Mr. Al G. Sandoval, 89, died surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his son, Angelo Sandoval; son-in-law, George Montoya; granddaughter, Victoria Sandoval; and siblings: Yvonne, Yolanda and Paul Sandoval.
Al is survived by his wife of 66 years, Angie; children: Alvin Sandoval and wife Stella, Adrie Maes and husband Bill, Ana Montoya, Alan Sandoval, Albert Sena and wife Rosa, Bill Arneson and wife Kathy; grandchildren: Marisa Hill and husband SSGT. Christopher, Natalie Maes, Ariana Maes, Talia Montoya and Antonio Sanchez, Alejandro Montoya, Jasmin Ruiz-Sandoval, Fernanda and Alejandra Sena, Michelle Talavera, and Robert Arneson; great-grandchildren: Malachi, Nehemiah, Kalayla, Elario, and Jude; brothers: George Sandoval and wife Rebecca, and Eugene Sandoval; family member, Albert Sena Sr. and special caregiver, Lorena; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Al was the BEST husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was born in Taos to his parents, Laureano and Magdalena Sandoval; was a WWII Naval veteran who graduated from New Mexico Highlands University where he met his wife and graduated with his bachelor's and master's degrees; then moved to Albuquerque and continued a dual career teaching middle school students and working at Safeway grocery store for 36 years. He was patient, kind, generous and was known as a hardworking man. Al loved his music especially playing the piano, the guitar and the accordion but also had a talent for drawing and painting.
Al's Life Celebration will begin with a Viewing on Wednesday from 2:00-4:00 p.m. in the Floral Chapel at Salazar Mortuary. A Rosary will be Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 619 Copper Ave. NW 87102. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 10:00 am at Immaculate Conception with Burial following at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Alejandro Montoya, Albert Sena Sr., Bill Maes, Marlo Lucero, Neal Sanchez, Geoffrey Sandoval, David Gallegos and SSGT. Chris Hill. Honorary pallbearers will be Jasmin Ruiz-Sandoval and Malachi Hill.
