Alex E. Roybal, an extremely devoted and loving father, grandfather, brother and uncle, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Friday August 5, 2016.
Alex is preceded in death by his parents Eugenio Roybal and Manuelita Sandoval. Alex is survived by his son Steve Roybal and wife Kyla Murphy; stepdaughter Sara Denogean; daughter Sandy Orchowski and husband Dan; grandson Dominic Roybal and girlfriend Raquel Giron; sister Amalia Montoya; nieces Lucille Montoya and husband Carlos, Cecilia Zamora, Annette Chavez, Donna Salazar, Rebecca Martinez and husband Jose, Cynthia Lopez, Roslynn Montoya and Amy Ruiz; nephew Albert Montoya; and several great nieces and nephews and several great great nieces and nephews.
Alex was raised in the Santa Fe/Espanola Area. He joined the Army at 16 years old and proudly served in the Korean War. He also served in the Air Force upon completing his first tour. After leaving the service, Alex became a police officer. He retired after 30 years of service as the Chief of Police of the University of New Mexico.
He was an avid golfer. The UNM Championship course was his home away from home. When he wasn't playing he was helping out with the tournaments being hosted at the Championship course.
Alex was an active member of St. Charles Borromeo Church for over 50 years.
He will always be remembered as a loving, caring and a protective person who loved to laugh and joke around. He will be deeply missed.
