Andres "Andy" Margarito Esparza

Andres “Andy” Margarito Esparza, 84, a Gallup native, born on February 18, 1939, devoted father, uncle, brother, an overall family man, and dedicated community member, passed peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, December 22, 2023.

He was preceded in death by his parents Margarito Esparza, Hilario and Theresa Mazon, sisters Jean Maldonado, Margie Armijo, and Marie Baca.

He is survived by his wife Sadie Esparza; daughters: Lisa Esparza, Rhonda Dixon, Roslind Joe and husband Daryl; sons: Rodney Dixon, Robert Dixon; “like daughter” Terri Nielson; five grandchildren; Destiny, Shondiin, Meeko, Ana, Liam, and another one due in 2024; also several nieces and nephews. All who knew him loved to call him their “uncle.” His family was his life and to him that love was worth more than anything in the world.

Andres was co-owner of the Elite Laundry immediately after graduating from high school. Then as the dry-cleaning manager for over 50 plus years, he was well-known as a loyal dedicated member of the community, beloved by his employees and staff.  He formed a partnership, the C.A.R. E. corporation that brought needed laundry services to the reservation areas. Andres “Andy” graduated from Gallup High School in 1959, Class President, Class Vice-President, Student Council, Key Club, Football, Basketball, Track, President of the G Club, and President of the Traffic Club. Later he became a member of the #1440 Elk’s Lodge, however, his passion was the time with the Gallup Lion’s Club.  He loved horses, rodeos, and the great outdoors. Andres was a loving, caring, and thoughtful man, no matter what he had going on, he would drop everything to be there for whoever needed him.

Andy's Life celebration will begin with a Rosary to be recited on Friday, January 5, 2024, at 10:00 am at St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church located at 214 W Wilson Ave, Gallup, NM  87301. Mass will follow the Rosary. No graveside service will be held at this time.

Pallbearers will be Bennie Maldonado, Jr, Karl Maldonado, Gary Maldonado, Brian Maldonado, Michael Maldonado, Kevin Begay, Kalem Begay and Kacee-Ray Begay.

Honorary pallbearers will be  Edison Begay, Sam Alonzo, Pete Acevedo, and Colin Anaya.
