In a world that could always use a helping hand and a good laugh, Angelo Louis Turiciano has left behind a legacy of craftsmanship, humor, and love in action. He died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at the age of 68.
A lifelong skier, Angelo first met his wife, Barbara Lomax Turiciano, at a ski race in Flagstaff, Arizona. She bested Angelo on the slopes that day — a fact they laughed about years later when they began dating. Together, they built a beautiful life, family, and community during 40 years of loving marriage.
When Angelo was eight years old, his family moved from Rockford, Illinois to Albuquerque, where he spent the rest of his life. Angelo was an alumnus of Del Norte High School and UNM. A true craftsman at heart, Angelo began his career as a tile setter in his father’s company, NM Marble and Tile, before carving his own path as a respected general contractor. He built custom homes throughout the city, each a testament to his creativity, talent, and meticulous nature. Though he claimed to be “retired,” Angelo was a constant tinkerer, always immersed in new projects, always lending a hand to family and friends.
As a father, Angelo was a steadfast supporter to his two children, and he communicated his love for his family through acts of service. From coaching his kids’ sports teams to fixing doorknobs and remodeling bathrooms, Angelo was always doing something for others. If Angelo was trying to make your life easier, it meant he loved you.
Angelo’s humor was as sharp as his tools. Lovingly dubbed “the funniest person he knows” by his children, his nieces and nephews, and yes, himself, Angelo was known for his sharp, blunt, and sometimes dark sense of humor. And while he claimed to never want pets, he fell absolutely in love with the two dogs his children foisted upon him.
Angelo is survived by his wife, Barb, and his children, Becca Turiciano (Aaron Hopkins) and Nicholas Turiciano (Betsy Farris). Born on June 27, 1956, in Rockford, Angelo was the son of the late Joseph (Joe) and Marie (née Abruzzo) Turiciano. Survivors also include his brother, Joe Turiciano (Debbie); his cousins Louis Abruzzo (Stacy) and Benny Abruzzo (Sandra); his uncle Nino Turiciano (JoAnne) and aunts Terry Mathiesen and Mae Jean Doyle; his mother-in-law Debbie Lomax; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews scattered across the country.
A celebration of Angelo’s life will be held on Sunday, December 15, 2024, from 2:00-5:00 PM at Tanoan Country Club located at 10801 Academy Road NE, 87111.
