Ann Crandall passed away peacefully in Scottsdale, Arizona on January 18, 2017. A third generation Albuquerque native, Ann is survived by her husband and best friend Doug, and by her loving son Mark, daughter-in-law Gayl, and grandtwins, Kate & Joel.
A graduate of the College of Santa Fe, Ann worked over 25 years for the City of Albuquerque Water Department, retiring as Customer Services Manager in 1998. After a short retirement, she became director of the Retired Public Employees of New Mexico. In 2008, she was persuaded to go back to work full time for the New Mexico Retiree Health Care Authority where she served as Operations Manager until she retired for the final time in 2011. Ann loved everyone who worked with her and worked for her; each one was her friend.
Ann will also be remembered for her 'green thumb', that she called plain hard work. Neighbors, friends, and strangers came by to see Ann's oasis in the desert, filled with impatiens, roses, hanging baskets and pots filled with colorful flowers.
Family was most important to Ann. Last December Ann & Doug were excited to celebrate their 45th anniversary. Ann treasured her close relationship with Mark, who called her every day. Kate and Joel were the joys of her life and she spoiled them every chance she could. Ann loved to travel with Doug, visiting more than 25 countries and over 40 states. Two of her favorite destinations were Hawaii and Costa Rica, especially when she and Doug were joined by Mark and family.
Anyone who knew Ann could not help but love her. Her constant smile was infectious, she was outgoing and she had a great sense of humor. She never met anyone she didn't consider a friend. Ann left this world far too soon, but while those of us she left behind are sad and miss her terribly, the angels in heaven are now laughing and having a wonderful time with a most special person. In lieu of flowers, Ann asked that donations be made to Hospice of the Valley, Scottsdale, AZ.
Also, in Ann's memory, donations can be made to her grandchildren Kate and Joel's club softball and baseball team. The money will be used for scholarship players and a uniform with Ann's initials. Donations are to be made out and sent to her son "Mark Crandall" at 5816 Balsa Pl. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87111.
