Barbara "Barb" Armijo, 60, passed away on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Luis and Eufelia Armijo.
She is survived by her two sons and their wives: Craig and Arianna Chavez, Drew and Bianca Chavez; grandchildren; Zayden Chavez, Baby Chavez (arriving May 2024); brother Patrick Armijo, sister Diana Armijo and Dominic Chavez, nephew Lawrence Chavez, aunts: Victoria Armijo and Dorothy Armijo. Barbara was very close to all her Herrera and Armijo cousins, especially Albert Herrera and his wife Sandra; and cousin Patricia Baros. She also leaves behind many close friends and co-workers at the State of New Mexico Public Education Department, Albuquerque Public Schools, and the Albuquerque Journal.
Barbara was born on January 6, 1963 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was raised on Armijo Lane in the South Valley of Albuquerque next to her aunt and uncle and nine of her Armijo cousins. After the passing of her father, Barb took ownership of the house on Armijo Lane. She was very proud of the family home and the improvements she was making to it. The family loved to celebrate holidays with her there.
She graduated from Rio Grande High School, received her Bachelor's degree in Journalism at the University of New Mexico, and a Master’s degree in Education from Grand Canyon University. She had many friends from high school and college, and remained close with them over the years. She had a monthly breakfast club, and weekend Wordle and Scrabble groups. Barbara was a parishioner at Holy Family Catholic Church, where she volunteered her time and often read during Saturday evening mass.
Barb was thrilled to become a grandmother in 2022. She was excited at every opportunity to see her grandson, Zayden. Although she was told to wait before announcing the arrival of her second grandchild next spring, she was too excited to keep it a secret.
Barb loved all her family and friends dearly. She had a giving heart, and was quick to befriend everyone she met. Please remember Barbara by spreading happiness and generosity. She helped so many people, that it would be wonderful to see such positivity proceed her.
