Bessie "Vicenta" Salas Purcella, age 90, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2015, surrounded by her loving family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Purcella; parents, Conrado Salas and Eufelia Chavez Salas; her in-laws Pete Purcella and Sofia Luna Purcella; three siblings, Benny, Caramelito and Carmelita Salas; her son-in-law, Frank Taddy; her sister-in-laws Frances Gurule, Becky Sanchez and Vicky Purcella; her brother-in-laws Martin Purcella, Joe Purcella, Herman Sanchez, Adolfo Gurule, Tony Sanchez and Julian Pohl, and her great grandson, Alexander Rhoads.
Bessie was born in Abo, New Mexico, the eldest of eight children, and went to work at age 13 to help put her brothers sisters through high school.
She married the love of her life, Lawrence, at age 23 in Mountainair, New Mexico, and celebrated 62 years of marriage, much of them at a baseball field.
She is survived by four loving daughtersa
