Caroline Benson

Caroline “Connie” Benson, 88, peacefully passed away at her home in Albuquerque on Wednesday, April 9, 2025.

She is preceded in death by her parents David and Frances Maciel, sister Aurora "Votie" Gonzalez, brothers: David Maciel, Bennie Maciel, Jose Maciel, and son-in-law David Ramirez.

Connie is survived by her children: Joyce Ramirez, Philip Benson, Claudette Benson; grandchildren: Andrew Ramirez, Sarah Caughey, Aubrey Larribas, Alexander Benson, Andrew Benson; great-grandson Zeedyn Ramirez; sisters: Tillie Mertens (FL) and Laura Martinez (CA), and numerous nieces and nephews.

Connie was born in Pueblo, CO, on August 17, 1936. Her family relocated to Albuquerque when she was a young girl. She was a 1954 graduate of Albuquerque High School after which she began her career at UNMH (formerly BCMC) as supervisor of the EKG lab. After retiring she spent much of her time with her “daddy.” They especially enjoyed long rides and fishing.

Connie was a woman of remarkable character, known for her no-nonsense attitude and spirit and who loved being with her family. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

Connie's life celebration will begin with a service on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at Salazar Mortuary located at 400 Third St. SW, 87102. Reception will follow inside Salazar Mortuary's Event Center.
