On Wednesday, October 2, 2024, Cecilia Zamora received a call she had been anticipating for some time. It was our dear Lord asking her if she would like to join him in Heaven. Of course, her answer was, “yes”, who could refuse such a blessing.
She is preceded in death by her husband Tony, Parents Vicente and Teodora Zamora, Sister Erlinda, Brother Nino, Nephew Matthew, and the love of her life and constant companion for 10 years Charles.
Cecilia is survived by her three sons: Mark, Vincent, Dino; Grandsons: Jace, Trevor, Dylan; Granddaughter: Devin; Sister: Sally: Brother Wilfred; Very Special Persons: Linda, Delphia, Donna, Gianna; Godchildren: Beatrice, Estelle, Geraldine, Trish, Tess, and Monica.
Cecilia was born on May 23, 1935, in Belen, NM. She was the oldest of five siblings and often provided care and support to her parents by helping in the family home. Precious moments for her were those spent with her sons. She loved them, protected and cherished them with her pure mother’s love. She took great pride in their achievements. Motherhood was the core of her life. Her sons were very active in sports growing up and she never missed any of their games despite holding a full-time job. She deeply loved her grandchildren; they were her greatest passion. Visting them brought such joy and energy to her life. Jace, the oldest, who doctored whatever ailed his grandmother. He was her gentle giant. Next in line was Trevor, when Cecilia visited him in Las Cruces, he cooked pizzas that were absolutely delicious. Devin and Dylan, the youngest believed Grandma Ceci made the best meatballs and sopapillas ever.
After graduating from college, her sons all flew the coop to find their own purpose in life. She then became involved and an active member of the Solo Club, Palo Duro Senior Citizens Center, American Legion Auxillary, USKA (U.S. Karate Association). After 14 years of bumps, bruises, sweat, and tears, she earned her black belt and third degree. She competed in several city, state, and nation-wide tournaments, earning a few trophies in the USBCA (U.S. Bowling Congress of America). Her winnings often paid for her entry fees. She was a devout Catholic and a member of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church.
Cecilia was not only about fun and games, but she was also very domestic. She made the best chocolate chip cookies and green chile chicken casserole. She could sew the heck out of anything. She brought back to life a myriad of baseball mitts that had become unlaced or undone by wear and tear from the constant practices and games of her boys and many of their teammates.
Cecilia’s Life Celebration will begin with a Rosary to be recited on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at 9:30am at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church located at 5300 Phoenix Ave NE, 87110. Mass will begin at 10:00am. Cecilia will be laid to rest following the Mass at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens located at 101-A N 10th St., Belen, 87002.
