Dan Mayfield, Sr.

May 29, 1946 — August 19, 2024

Dan Mayfield, Sr., 78, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away suddenly on Monday, August 19, 2024

He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Teresa, son Daniel, Jr., daughter Marietta Revesz and husband Paul, grandchildren Pete, Irene, brother Michael Mayfield, sister Catherine Powers, two nieces and a nephew.

Dan was born on May 29, 1946, to Virginia and Charlie Mayfield in Albuquerque. He graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1964, before attending UNM, and later New Mexico Highlands University, where he earned an MBA. He also proudly served in the U.S. Air National Guard.

Dan devoted his life to his family and to public service. He spent as much time as possible enjoying time with family, traveling, playing golf, and enjoying cars with his son, or simply going to Dairy Queen for ice cream. He met his wife Teresa in high school and they were married for 53 years. Together they raised a family and traveled the globe, visiting interesting locations like China, Cuba, and Hungary. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, especially teaching them to fish, how to drive a go-kart, or how to hit a baseball. He enjoyed visiting his daughter and her family in Washington, D.C., and his trips there were often a highlight. With his son, he enjoyed visiting car shows and having good meals in Albuquerque. One of the highlights of his life was playing golf with his good friend (especially when he played well).

Professionally, Dan served Bernalillo County as CFO and Deputy County Manager for 23 years. He was recognized by several national organizations for his financial management skills. Always civic minded, he donated much of his time to serving on nonprofit and elected boards, including serving two terms as an elected officer for the Public Employees Retirement Association and several terms on the Board of Directors of Rio Grande Credit Union.

Dan will be remembered by many as someone who never met a stranger. He was always the first to start a conversation, the first with a kind word, and the first to compliment everyone in his life. But his family always came first. Anyone who knew him will remember him dropping everything to answer a call from his wife, to take time with his son, or spend time with his daughter and her family. For them, he was a rock, a hero, a friend, a caretaker, and always the best Dad and Grandpa.

Dan's Life Celebration will begin with a Viewing on Monday, August 26, 2024 at 9:00am at Shrine of the Little Flower St. Therese of the Infant Jesus Catholic Church located at 3424  Fourth St. NW 87107.
