Emma S. Bernal

Emma S. Bernal was born March 22, 1922 in Ysarra, New Mexico. She went to be with our Lord on October 16, 2016. She was 94 years old.

She is preceded in death by her parents Augustine and Onofre Sedillo; sister Gregorita Sedillo; brothers Fidel Epimenio and Antonio Sedillo;husband Leonardo Bernal; son Lawrence Bernal; daughter Yvonne Sanchez; and grandson Lawrence Fernando Bernal.

She leaves behind her children Veneranda Lopez (Margarito), Ernest Bernal (Eva), Leonard Bernal (Rebecca), Bernice Trujillo (Delbert) and Tina Martinez (Gilbert) who took care of her the last months of her life on hospice. She also leaves behind a step son James Santiago Pena who she loved very much. Emma also leaves behind many many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, too many to mention.

Emma Lived life to the fullest. She loved going to the casino to eat and play the penny slots. She was a devout Catholic all her life and belonged to the Legion of Mary and the Sacred Heart League. She loved going to church on Sunday. She leaves behind many friends that she loved and who loved her.

A special thank you to her Comadre and neighbor Socorro Garcia and to Comadre Rosemary Romero for praying the Divine Mercy every night with our mother and her son Johnnie Romero for your kindness. The Bernal family would like to thank Heritage Hospice for the great care you gave to our mother. Especially Nurse Becky, Jamie, and Jessica.

A very special thank you to Fr. Stephen Hickman and Deacon Leroy Sanchez, you were so kind to our mother and she loved you both. Thank you for your friendship and the beautiful service you said for our mother, you are very special to us. Thank you to Deacon Andy Chavez for reciting the Rosary.

Pallbearers will be Dominic Bernal, Tony Griego, David Lopez, Leonard J. Bernal, Jr., Eric Martinez and James Santiago Pena.

Emma's Life Celebration will begin with a Rosary at 9:00 am followed by Mass at 10:00 am both at San Ignacio Catholic Church on Saturday, October 22, 2016. As per Emma's wishes, there will be no viewing. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
