Ernie Matthew Lucero

Ernest Matthew Lucero passed away on Sunday, June 27, 2021, at the age of 59.

He is preceded in death by his mother Virginia Lucero, father Chris Lucero, sister Renee Lucero and niece Lynnae Lucero.

Ernest is survived by his wife Catherine Lucero; daughter Ianna Gallegos-Lucero; grandson Geovanni Gallegos; brothers: Chris Lucero and wife Olga, Glen Lucero and wife Pam, Boni Lucero and wife Milly, Clifford Lucero and wife Karen.

Ernie was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico and raised in the heart of Old Town. He attended San Felipe de Neri, Washington Junior High, and Albuquerque High School. He took great pride in being a Bull Dog and was an incredibly talented athlete. He was an outstanding Bull Dog Point Guard. Ernie had a great passion for sports and enjoyed participating in as many pools as possible. He would sit in his living room with a fold up table with all his highlighters grading everyone’s picks. He loved the Seattle Seahawks and Boston Celtics. He would watch basketball games and continuously say, “You’ve gotta’ nail your free throws if you want to be a champ!”

Ernie laid his eyes on the ultimate love of his life Catherine, and he knew he had to have her. They were inseparable since the day that they met and had the type of love you only see in movies. He would say, “I love you with all of my heart and soul.”  Together, they raised their daughter Ianna and grandson Geovanni. He loved Catherine's family. He would go above and beyond for them. They loved and adored him right back.

He was so loved by everyone.  Everywhere he went he’d run into someone that he either grew up with, or he met along the way.

He cherished and loved his Lucero family with all of his heart.

He will be deeply missed.

Ernie's Life Celebration will begin with a Service on Saturday, July 3, 2021 at 10:00 am at Salazar Mortuary located at 400 Third St SW, 87102. Ernie will be laid to rest at a later date.
