Gilbert Gutierrez

Gilbert Gutierrez, 67, passed away on Tuesday, June 13, 2023.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Transito and Nora Gutierrez; sisters: Rosa Villanueva, Abbie Cano, Viola Prieto; Gloria Gutierrez, Ruby Sena; brothers: Jerry Gutierrez, Mark Gutierrez and Robert Gutierrez.

Gilbert is survived by his brother Rick Gutierrez (Isabel); sisters: Sally Villanueva (Jesus); Cindy Gonzalez; Betty Gutierrez, Debbie Chavira; daughters: Monica Sanchez (Christopher); Stephanie Mejia (Joel), Rachel Gutierrez; Three granddaughters: Liliana Sanchez, Evelina Sanchez, Aubriana Sanchez; also his Godchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Gilbert was one of 13 siblings who grew up on the south side of the San Jose neighborhood. Throughout his life, he loved painting both commercially and residentially and made it a career during most of his adult years. He enjoyed taking long drives through places along the mountains like Tijeras and Chilili. A lot of these rides were taken and enjoyed while driving his cherished 1978 Chevy Camaro. He has been a huge fan of sports and would watch games and matches on TV like boxing and wrestling but especially loved nothing more than football. He was a die-hard, loyal and dedicated fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He wore his Steelers gear most every day, and was never seen without his Steelers hat on.

He adored his Three daughters and often expressed that his proudest accomplishment was being their dad. He always talked about them to anyone he met or spoke to and always brought them up in conversation with a smile on his face and a sparkle in his eye. When his Three granddaughters were born, his heart grew even bigger for them.

Gilbert lived a simple life on his own terms and never backed away from who he truly was. He had a way of making others laugh uncontrollably with his silly humor and his own made up jokes. Many people will say he was the most fun and hilarious person to be around. He is definitely a man who will always be loved and missed.

Gilbert's life celebration will begin with a visitation on Thursday, June 22, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. at Salazar Mortuary located at 400 Third St. SW, 87102. Rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m. Service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Gilbert will be laid to rest following the service at Mount Calvary Cemetery located at 1900 Edith Blvd NE, 87102. Reception will follow inside Salazar Mortuary Life Event Center located at 400 Third St. SW, 87102.

Pallbearers will be Miguel Prieto, Lorenzo Cardenas, Adrian Gutierrez and Anthony Arana.

Honorary Pallbearer will be Eric Arana.
