Gretchen Volz

Gretchen Volz, a loving and selfless spirit, passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2023.

She is preceded in death by her son, Asa Myers; parents Charles and Eleanor “Tecia” Volz; sisters: Elizabeth "Liza" Volz and Thea Tzamaloukas.

Gretchen is survived by her daughter Lilah Baca and husband Justin Baca, and grandson expected in April, 2024; brothers: James "Jim" Volz and Clark Simonis; sisters: Linda Volz Carson, Tecia Dimond, Laura Volz Aldrich, Victoria Gosselin; nieces and nephews: Peter Wakeland, Schuyler Volz, Jacob Volz, Scott Dimond, Jessica Belisle, Calley Satriana, David Tzamaloukas, Hayden Acosta, Isabelle Tzamaloukas, also multiple great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including her furry’s: Pumba the pig; dogs Molly, Sofa, Steve, Bucky and Stella; cats: Bob, Monty, Marie, Fidel, and fish Oscar.

Known for her unwavering devotion to her family, her thoughtfulness, and her beautiful soul, Gretchen leaves behind a legacy that will forever be remembered by those who were fortunate to know her.

Born with a heart for animals, Gretchen dedicated much of her life to the service and protection of wildlife. She was a proud member of Defenders of Wildlife and Animal Rescue, where she tirelessly advocated for the well-being of every creature, both great and small. Her love for animals was further realized through her association with Misfits of Oz Farm Sanctuary.

Gretchen was a woman of many passions, but nothing compared to the love she had for her family. She was a proud mother, with her children being the center of her universe. Her love for them was evident in every aspect of her life. She was the best gift giver, she would put so much thought and love into any gift she presented. Her love of being a mom was something she wore as a badge of honor, and her family was the most important thing to her.

A woman of determination, Gretchen was known for her stubbornness, a trait that often led her to always want to be right and always be first. Yet, this same stubbornness also bred resilience, making her an unyielding force of love and compassion. Her glamorous spirit was infectious, and she had a knack for sprinkling beauty and joy wherever she went.

Gretchen’s adventurous spirit led her to enjoy traveling to Red River, Durango and making memorable trips to Las Vegas. These experiences highlighted her love for life and her ability to find joy in every journey. She had a unique way of making every outing feel like a grand adventure, and her stories of these adventures were always a source of amusement and awe.

Gretchen Volz was a beacon of love, selflessness, and thoughtfulness. Her life was a testament to the power of love and the beauty of compassion. She will forever be remembered for her unwavering commitment to her family, her love for animals, and her ability to make everyone around her feel cherished and valued. Her memory will continue to inspire and guide those who knew her, and her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those she loved.

Gretchen’s Life Celebration will begin with a service on Monday, October 30, 2023, at 12:00pm inside Mount Calvary’s Chapel located at 1900 Edith Blvd NE, 87102. Gretchen will be laid to rest following the service at Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Jim, Jon, Jake, Sky, Jace, Rhye, and Joshua.
