Irving Piper Andrews, Jr., known to many as Irv, passed away after suffering from COPD, formerly known as emphysema, on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, surrounded by family.
Irving was born to attorney Irving P. Andrews, Sr. and Evelyn Andrews on June 11, 1951 in Denver, Colorado. A magnetic personality, Irv started a band in high school, the Livin’ Ends, and went on to have a storied music career in Denver and Los Angeles. He loved music and as the frontman for bands, he enchanted audiences. He loved cars and lived in Albuquerque for over 30 years, where he worked in the car business.
Irving is survived by blood and chosen family. He and Tamma Williams celebrated their 26th wedding anniversary in August, and she has remained his companion and champion for the rest of his life. He was proud to be bonus dad to Ashley Nix, a nurse who surely extended and enhanced his life with her commitment to his health over many years. Irving loved her husband Steven and being grandfather, lovingly known as Bap, to Landon and Addison. He is survived and loved by his sisters Liz Andrews with husband Brian J. Brown and baby Polaris; Leah Andrews with David Willis, and their children David and Josephine; and Lynn Andrews. He was close to their mother Sara Jones and husband Charles Jones. His three brothers, Judge Alfred Harrell, Steven Harrell and Eric Andrews, are all still living and have beautiful families. Irv was very close to his bandmates: Greg Tharp on bass guitar, Bobby Miller on the keys, Dave Sondrup playing drum, and Art Colyer on guitar. His message to the world in his final days was this: be good to people, and they will be good to you.
