James W. Hughes, Ed.D., age 82, passed away Feb. 7, 2017. Born in Saulte Ste. Marie, Michigan June 24, 1934 to Enoch and Isabelle (Bloomer) Hughes, he is survived by his brother, Jack Hughes, and sister, Florence McElligott, and loving nieces and nephews and friends world-wide whose lives he has touched.
Jim received his bachelors in Elementary Education from Buffalo State where as captain of the cross country track team, won several awards. He earned his doctorate in Education from UNM and became professor of Elementary Education at Oakland University, Michigan becoming Professor Emeritus in 1999. Jim's commitment to children and education was also seen on several USAID international education projects working in Kenya, Nepal, Pakistan and other countries.
He has authored many books, was a theatrical actor and playwright. He has resided in New Mexico and Colorado after he retired.
