James Edward Lopez

August 6, 1950 — March 7, 2023

Our beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather, James Edward Lopez went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday March 7, 2023, surrounded by his family at the age of 72.

He is preceded in death by his sisters: Jackie Zamora, Jennie Rivera, Frances Lopez; brothers: Andrew Lopez, Isaac Lopez, and Aristeo Lopez.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Angie Lopez,; three children: James Lopez (Jeanne), Willie Lopez (Jeanette), Cindy Chavez (Bobby); three grandchildren:  Maichae Lopez, Ryan Lopez, and Josiah Lopez; sisters: Mary Jaramillo (Phil), Edwina Tabares, and several nieces and nephews.

James was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Aristeo and Desideria Lopez on August 6, 1950.

After retiring from the City of Albuquerque, he continued his work with the Albuquerque Public Schools for many more years.  He enjoyed playing softball, dancing, camping, singing, and listening to the guitar with his family and friends. He was always the life of the party.

He loved his family passionately and did everything to ensure their happiness. He was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren and all their accomplishments. He never missed a performance or a game and was proud to coach his children’s little league teams.

James' Life Celebration will begin with a Rosary to be recited on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at 8:15 am at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church located at 5415 Fortuna Road, N.W., 87105. Mass will begin at 9:00 am.

Pallbearers will be Victor Velasquez, Maichae Lopez, Ryan Lopez, and Josiah Lopez.

Honorary Pallbearers will be William Tabares, Melanie Lopez, Carlos Valenzuela, and Steven Valenzuela.

The Lopez family would like to thank all family and friends for all their support and prayers.
