Jennie S. Gonzales was a warrior hidden in a tiny body she passed away peacefully on Friday, August 30, 2024, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, at the age of 81. She died under her porch, surrounded by family on a beautiful sunny New Mexico day.
Jennie was preceded in death by her parents Manual and Reta Sedillo, sister Amelia Martinez, as well as her late husband Ernest Arthur Gonzales.
She is survived by her husband Rodolfo Rico; children: Ernest Gonzales, Rudy Gonzales, Gerald Gonzales, and Francella H. Aragon. She also leaves behind grandchildren, great-grandchildren, was a beloved aunt and great-aunt. She befriended many along her life and kept contact with those she loved, most tenaciously.
Jennie was born on July 18, 1943, in Mountainair, New Mexico, Jennie's life was a tapestry of love, humor, hard work, and dedication to her family.
Jennie's passion for life was evident in her love for cooking, a skill she often used to bring her family together. Her kitchen was the heart of her home, where aromas of her famous dishes lingered, and laughter was always in abundance. No one will ever make refried beans like she did. She cherished the simple pleasure of calling and catching up with her children, a testament to the deep bonds she nurtured with them throughout her life.
Her chihuahuas, Tiny and Ulysses will most likely lose weight without their steady heaps of treats and constant doting from her. Her husband, Rodolfo, was her steadfast partner in every adventure. Together, they created a world filled with love, support, and mutual respect. Jennie's enthusiasm for thrifting was more than a hobby; it was a treasure hunt that brought joy to her and those around her with each unique find.
An avid football fan, Jennie's spirit soared with every game of the Lobos, she bought season tickets on and off to see her beloved team she jokingly called The Bolos when they would lose...which was often. Her collection of knickknacks, ranging from whimsical rooster and chickens to delicate porcelain dolls, Santos and serene angels, was a reflection of her eclectic and vibrant personality. Her rose garden and grape vines were her favorite things in her large yard.
Jennie's sense of humor was a gift that she shared generously, brightening the lives of all who knew her. She was the embodiment of kindness and passion, leaving a legacy of warmth and joy that will be cherished by her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with her.
Jennie's life was a journey filled with laughter, love, and an unwavering passion for the things and people she held dear. She will be profoundly missed, yet her spirit will continue to inspire those who were touched by her remarkable presence. She showed all of us to never stop going, despite what obstacle we were faced with.
Jennie's Life Celebration will begin with a Viewing on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at 4:00pm at Salazar Mortuary located at 400 Third St. SW, 87102. Rosary will be recited at 7:00pm. Mass will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at 10:00am at San Jose Mission Catholic Church located at 16 Calle Alegre, La Joya, NM 87028. Jennie will be laid to rest following the Mass at Contreras Cemetery located across the street from the church.
Pallbearers will be Ernest Gonzales, Isaac Gonzales, David Gonzales, Max Aragon, Amber Aragon, and Nicasio Gonzales.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Manuel Rico and Anthony Pinon.
