John H. Patterson, 86, passed away on Sunday, April 25, 2021.
John was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years Mable K. Patterson and son John Michael Patterson.
He is survived by his sons: Garry Patterson (Corrine), Robert Patterson; daughters: Susan Montano (Charles), Karen Vescovi (Jeff), 13 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren.
John was born in Springer, New Mexico to Hubert and Pearl Patterson. He was a graduate of Cimarron High School. He joined the United States Marine Corps at the age of 18 and served two years during the Korean conflict stationed at the Cherry Point Marine Corps Air Station in Cherry Point, North Carolina.
He met his wife Mable on a trip to Northfolk, Virginia while still stationed at Cherry Point. He and Mable welcomed daughter Susan before moving back to New Mexico.
John worked for several companies in Albuquerque including ACF, Sandia Labs, and Los Alamos Labs. He retired from General Electric as a Parts Programming Manager.
Over the years he and Mable had four more children: John, Karen, Garry, and Robert. John was very successful in life. He owned a hay farm and a mountain view property on the Costilla River in Amalia, New Mexico. He also raised cattle occasionally on his property in the South Valley.
John loved fishing, hunting, and gardening. He used to say the he was going to live forever, and that one day his ship was going to come floating down the ditch.
John's Life Celebration will begin with a Service on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 11:00am at Salazar Mortuary located at 400 Third St. SW, 87102. A Reception will follow at Salazar Mortuary inside the Salazar Mortuary Event Center. John will be laid to rest with Mable at the Mountain View Cemetery in Cimarron, New Mexico at a later date.
Due to the COVID restrictions set in place by the Governor masks are MANDATORY to attend John's Service and Reception.
