Johnny was born in Yrizarri, NM on April 12, 1935, he was one of 13 boys. Johnny had a love for the East Mountains where he lived until he moved to Albuquerque at the age of 14.
He met Ninfa Garcia, (eldest daughter of Nick and Trinnie Garcia,) when they were teenagers in 1951. While dating he would pick her up on his motorcycle, they dated exclusively until their marriage in 1953. They were married for 36 years before Ninfa unexpectedly passed away at the age of 49 in 1989.
Johnny worked multiple jobs which helped him gain the skill set needed to eventually work for the City of Albuquerque in 1959 as a truck driver and heavy equipment operator. Due to his hard work, diligence and ever talkative nature, he was on a first name basis with many of the city officials, including Mayor Kinney. Despite his limited education, he was promoted to supervisor of Street Paving and Flood Control. He worked there until he retired in 1985 at the age of 50. After retirement he spent his time fixing things around the house and for friends and family.
