"Meno" Montoya was born to Filomeno Montoya and Olfita Silva in Abuquerque, NM. He graduated from Albuquerque High School and joined the NM Air National Guard in 1950. Meno enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1952 and separated in 1955. He was a firefighter for about one year before beginning his career as a civil servant with the Department of Defense as a jet engine mechanic at KAFB. He retired in 1987. After becoming bored of retirement, he returned to work as a maintenance supervisor at DOE through SouthAM, Sparkle Maintenance,and Chugach. He ultimately retired in 2011.
Meno is preceded in death by Jennie G. Montoya; children: Joseph J. and Gina Y. Montoya. He is survived by children: Debra J. and husband Robert W. Hulsman, John V. and wife Christine Montoya, and Paul M. and wife Summer Montoya; sister, Barbara J. and husband Henry Zachary; sisters-in-law Nancy and Martha Montoya; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; his beloved Gloria Baca, and Dakota. He was a proud member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Jose's Life Celebration will begin with a Rosary on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, located at 309 Stover Ave. SW 87102. Mass will be held on Friday, March 18, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. also at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow Services at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
