Julianita Gurule

Julianita "Julia" G. Gurule, a cherished mother and grandmother, peacefully departed this world on Saturday, January 13, 2024, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Julia was reunited in heaven and rests in peace beside her parents, Antonio P. and Maria Taida Garcia; beloved husband Edward M. Gurule; sons: Richard Garcia, Edward Joseph Gurule; dear daughter-in-law Elizabeth "Lisa" Gurule; brothers: Galo, Juan, and Teodoro "Ted" Garcia.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving sons: Michael, Charles and his devoted wife Polly; beloved daughter Dorothy Astorga and her loving husband Joe; precious grandchildren: Michelle, Martin, Mannie, Joseph, Lorenzo, Raymond, Charles, Antoinette, Eddie, and Daniel, continue to carry her legacy forward; great-grandchildren: Delilah, Antonio, Monte, Mia, Braizley, Gianna, Ariana, Brystol, Alonzo, Abigail, and Gabriella, are testaments to the love she poured into her family. Julia is also survived by her dear brother Robert Garcia; sisters: Rosemary Serna and Sarah Sedillo, along with their families; sister-in-laws: Priscilla Sprunk (Rudy), Jennie Gurule, Toni Garcia; brother-in-law Gilbert Gurule, share in the grief with numerous nieces, nephews, and other beloved relatives who, together, formed a circle of lifelong friends.

Born on October 21, 1936, in the heart of Guadalupe, New Mexico, she made Albuquerque her home, leaving an indelible mark on the community. Julia's unwavering faith in the Catholic Church was a guiding light in her life, and she was an integral part of the San Ignacio Parish in Martinez Town. Her devotion shone through her roles as a Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Santa Monica Society, and her enchanting presence in the church choir.

Julia's life was a symphony of simplicity and storytelling, grounded in her profound love for the little joys that make life beautiful. She held a special place in her heart for her ranch in Guadalupe, NM, where she reveled in reminiscences and cherished visits.

Julia's heart was an artisan's sanctuary, where she lovingly crafted with knitting needles, crocheting hooks, quilting fabrics, and a myriad of art supplies. Her hands baked with love, preserving old family recipes and nurturing the souls of all who gathered around her table. Her wanderlust took her on adventures near and far, capturing cherished memories during family and religious journeys.

Julia's tireless dedication to her community and faith led her to spend countless hours volunteering at local churches and community centers, embodying the spirit of service. Her absence will be keenly felt by her loving family and friends, as she leaves behind a void that can never truly be filled.

Julia's presence may have left this world, but her spirit will forever remain alive in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing and loving her. She was a beacon of love, faith, and joy, and her memory will continue to shine brightly.

Julia’s Life Celebration will begin with a visitation at 10:00 am on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at San Ignacio Catholic Church, located at 1300 Walter St NE, 87102. Rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m. Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m. Julia will be laid to rest following the Mass at Mount Calvary Cemetery, located at 1900 Edith Blvd NE, 87102. The day will conclude with a gathering at the San Ignacio Parish Hall, where friends and family will come together to remember and celebrate the beautiful life of Julia Gurule.

Mannie Gurule, Lorenzo Gurule, Raymond Gurule, Charles Gurule, Eddie Gurule, and Daniel Astorga, guided by her spirit, will serve as pallbearers, carrying her memory with grace.
