Julian “Jay/Papa” Chavez, Jr, age 84, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 14, 2024.
He was preceded in death by his parents Julian, Sr. and Viola, and sister Rosemarie.
Julian is survived by his beloved wife Elaine, daughters: JoAnn, Julie, brother Eddie and wife Louella; grandchildren: Danielle, Julian and his fiancé Ciara; and many nieces and nephews.
He was born on April 17, 1940 to Julian Chavez, Sr and Viola Chavez and was raised in Albuquerque, NM. In 1960 he met Elaine Romero at an Easter picnic and they married shortly after on September 24, 1960. They moved to Denver for him to attend barber school. They welcomed two daughters, JoAnn and Julie. After his schooling was complete they moved back to Albuquerque where they raised their family. He was passionate about his craft and worked as a barber for 56 years. He went on to have two grandchildren, Danielle and Julian, who came to know him as Papa. His grandkids were his pride and joy. He loved spending quality time with family, fishing, reading and music. He was a loyal Denver Bronco fan. Sundays were always spent with family, either watching football or hanging by the pool. He was an animal lover and had several pets over the years.
He will be dearly missed.
Jay's Life Celebration will begin with a Mass on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at 10:00am at San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church in Old Town located at 2005 N Plaza St. NW, 87104. A reception will follow at Revel located at 4720 Alexander Blvd NE, 87107.
Pallbearers will be Danny Chavez, Eddie Chavez, Robert Lucero, and Joesph Romero.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Freddie Chavez and Paul Romero.
