Leroy A. Duran

Cherished husband, father, grandfather and friend, LeRoy A. Duran went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 22, 2025.

LeRoy was preceded in death by his mother Jesusita Duran, father Elias Duran, nine brothers and sisters, wife Barbara Duran, son and daughter in-law John and Marie Duran, and daughter Kimberly Duran.

LeRoy is survived by daughters: Rhonda Cota (Terry), Adina Clayton (Anthony), Paula Bentley (Dean); grandchildren: Matthew Cota (Cynthia), Anthony Cota (Molly), Sarene Clayton, Raina Clayton, Zachary Clayton, Leah Clayton, Samuel Duran, John Paul Bentley, as well as many great-grandchildren.

LeRoy, age 78 was born on December 19, 1946 in Raton, New Mexico. As a God-fearing man of great faith, LeRoy lived a full and vibrant life alongside his wife of nearly 60 years, Barbara.

LeRoy will be remembered for his seamless sense of humor and unwavering courage. LeRoy's early years in Raton were filled with fond memories and experiences that shaped his character. He was known for his generous heart and ability to light up a room with his quick wit and infectious laughter. His love for studying the bible was a testament to his strong faith and provided him with guidance to be the leader that he was to his family.

As an avid fan of the ‘horse racing scene’, LeRoy enjoyed reminiscing about the excitement of the tracks. He loved to watch Westerns and he loved teasing his family with a good-natured rivalry between him, a true Raiders fan and his family, all Broncos fans. His passion for making others laugh and feel cared for was matched only by his love for uncle Don’s red chile and pork chops in Raton, a treat he relished.

LeRoy was a man of many interests. His collection of die-cast cars, race track items and boxing memorabilia was a source of pride and joy. Each piece told a story: a memory of a race won, a match watched, or a moment treasured. He loved sharing these stories with his grandchildren, passing on his enthusiasm for the sports and hobbies that he loved.

Above all, LeRoy was a provider. He worked tirelessly to ensure that his family was well cared for, often going above and beyond for them whenever they needed anything. His role as a husband was taken with the utmost seriousness and devotion, and as a father and grandfather, he was simply the best. His love, guidance, and laughter that he provided will be deeply missed by all.

If there were any words that could describe LeRoy, it would be funny, generous and courageous. He faced life's challenges with strength and a smile, never losing his sense of humor even in the toughest of times. His ability to give selflessly and make others feel valued was a gift to all who knew him.

LeRoy A. Duran leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and resilience. His memory will continue to inspire and comfort those who were fortunate enough to have known him. As we say goodbye, we also say thank you for the memories, lessons, and love. Leroy’s spirit will live on in the lives of his family and friends.

LeRoy's Life Celebration will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at 6:00 pm at Reflections Chapel located at 2400 Washington St. NE, 87110. Another Life Celebration will take place on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 11:00am at Mesa Church located at 917 S 2nd St. Raton, NM 87740.
