Luis D. Sanchez "Lou-Dogg," 60, went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, December 11, 2018.
He is preceded in death by his father, Richard C. Sanchez and his sisters, Dolores Terrazas and Stella Salas. He is survived by his mother, Carmen F. Sanchez, his son, Luis R. Sanchez, his brothers; John R. Sanchez, Victor A. Sanchez and wife Rozena, Raymond C. Sanchez and wife Janet, and Julian L. Sanchez, and his sister Bernadette A. Lopez and husband Ronnie.
Luis was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico in the neighborhood of Barelas, and was so proud to be called a Bareleno. He grew up with his four brothers and 3 sisters and enjoyed life to the fullest. His pride and joy were his sons and he made them the priority of his life. The family called him Dominic and he was so good to all his nieces and nephews, and they all just loved their Uncle Dominic so much. He would always have a little gift in hand when he would visit and a beautiful smile on his face. He talked to his Mom every day to tell her about his day and check on her and would honk when he drove by before and after work.
He played basketball for Albuquerque High School and was always a proud Bulldog. He was a staple at Barelas Community Center, shooting hoop for many years before there was ever even a gym. Luis loved working in his garden, which was full of beautiful roses and irises--his Dad used to call him Mr. Green Jeans. He was a teacher and mentor at Sacred Heart Church and positively impacted the lives of many young individuals. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
His favorite teams were the Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles Dodgers and was always a loyal Lobo fan. Luis knew all the stats of the teams and could tell you who would win or lose and why. Him and his son Luis loved watching the games together and cheering on their favorite teams. He had many loyal friends that he loved spending time with, especially Petro Baca.
He was looking forward to retirement next year and was so proud of all his hard work toward this goal. Dominic “Lou-Dogg” will be greatly missed but his memory will live in our hearts forever.
Luis' Life Celebration will begin on Sunday, December 16th with a Visitation at 1:00 pm, followed by a Rosary at 3:00 pm at Salazar Mortuary, located on 400 3rd St. SW, 87102.
