Manuel B. Garcia

August 1, 1922 — March 7, 2016

Manuel B. Garcia, 93, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away Tuesday morning, March 7, 2016.

He was born August 1, 1922, in Duranes, New Mexico and resided in the Armijo area of Albuquerque for the last 66 years of his life.

He is preceded in death by his daughter Yolanda Garcia and granddaughter Stephanie Garcia.

Manuel is survived by his loving wife Lila Garcia; son Ron Garcia; three grandchildren: Monique Garcia, Ivan Garcia, Sarah Valdez; two great grandchildren: Ethan and Kayla; and brother Andy Padilla.

He served in the Civil Conservation Corps and 1st Calvary Division of the U.S. Army during World War II. After the war, he worked for the U.S. Post Office, and the Atomic Energy Commission. He finished his career with the General Services Administration, and after retiring went into his own small business venture. He was an avid golfer, well known at most Albuquerque golf courses. He committed some of his time to his most enjoyable part-time job as an usher for the UNM Lobo games and was loved and cherished by many Lobo fans. He served his church parish of St. Anne's in many capacities and was active in the Knights of Columbus, Cursillos, and St. Vincent de Paul.

He will be missed and remembered by his family and numerous friends for his generosity, wit, and sense of humor.

The family extends their gratitude to Hospice Compassus for their assistance and care.

Manuel's Life Celebration will begin with a Rosary on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Salazar Mortuary.

Manuel will be laid to rest with his wife Lila on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at 9:00 am at the Santa Fe National Cemetery located at 501 N Guadalupe St, Santa Fe 87501
