Marcella Garcia

March 2, 1930 — April 6, 2025

Marcella “Marcie” Lucero Garcia, 95, passed away at her home in Albuquerque on Sunday, April 6, 2025.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Boni Garcia; brothers: Elizardo Gonzales, Arneldo (Stella) Lucero, Benjamin (Pina) Lucero, Albert (Isidora) Lucero, Ostacio Lucero; sisters: Frances (Gabriel) Sena, her infant twin Maria Catalina, Kathryn (Arnold) Paroline, Rosalie Lucero.

She is survived by her sons: Richard (Jody) Garcia, Robert (Carla Chavez) Garcia, Gary Garcia; daughters: Carol Garcia, Joan (Mark) Wilson; much loved grandchildren: Phillip Chavez, Christian (Sierra) Garcia, Isabella Garcia y Lauer, Joaquin Garcia, Alejandro Garcia, Enrique Garcia, Quinlan Wilson; sister-in-law Rose Lucero; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Marcella maintained a profound relationship with her niece, Patty Cordova, with daily phone calls over the years and sharing experiences more like those of sisters.

She was born on March 2, 1930, in the home of Clemente Lucero and Sara Lucero in Cabezon, Sandoval County, New Mexico.

She was reared and attended schools in Cabezon and Albuquerque where she graduated from the Harwood School for Girls. After graduation she worked for Sandia Base as a clerical assistant. Yearning for more, she left for Los Angeles and entered a school for the growing radio industry. Her success influenced her two younger sisters, Kathryn and Rosalie, to follow. While money was tight, she enjoyed the many adventures that California in the early 1950s provided. Due to her father’s illness, Marcella was compelled to return home and care for her parents assisting her older sister, Frances. She went to work with KGGM Television where she made herself a reliable part of the early years of media in Albuquerque. If not for the diligent work of Marcella and her sister, Frances, their parents would have surrendered the family land in Corrales. Each of their siblings would later share this legacy by inheriting a parcel after their parents’ passing.

Marcella’s life took a dramatic turn when she met Bonifacio M. Garcia. She and Boni were married in May 1958 and they set out to rear a family of five children. They provided their children with a rich life full of family events, scouting, team sports and school activities, always stressing the importance of their education. They were proud that all their children earned college degrees with four achieving advanced degrees. As her children became independent, Marcella reentered the business world working for First National Bank and later First Security Bank, retiring in 1991. As an active member of her church parish, she participated in the Women’s Guild and in the Sunday morning choir.

Marcella's Life Celebration will begin with a Rosary to be recited on Friday, May 9, 2025, at 10:30am at our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church located at 4020 Lomas Blvd NE, 87110.
