Mario A. Hernandez, Sr. went to be with his Lord on Monday, December 20, 2021.
Mario is survived by his wife Geraldine; sons: Mario, Jr. and wife Michelle, Eric; three grandchildren: Mario III, Matias, Mila; brothers: Julian, Michael and wife JoAnn; nephews: Damian Roberts, Darin Roberts representing their mother MaryAnn Roberts who recently passed away; nephew Gabriel Guerrero; niece Mirinda Kelly and husband Charles representing their mother Yolanda Guerrero who recently passed away; sister-in-law Lorraine Armijo and husband Andrew; brother-in-law Herman Montoya and wife Thomasine; brother-in-law Laudente Montoya; aunts: Arabella Montoya, Angela Hernandez; uncles: Carl Duran and wife Munise, Rudy Duran, LoLo Hernandez and many other nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins.
He retired from the New Mexico Air National Guard after 38 years of service. During his many years of service his tours took him to many different countries. He enjoyed traveling with his best friend “Smoky” Lopez. He was even able to visit his uncle Carl and his family in Turkey. After retirement he worked for 12 years as an escort for unsecured personnel at Sandia National Laboratory.
Mario played and coached fast pitch softball for many years. He played with family and made many friends. He also coached his sons Little League baseball teams.
Mario dedicated his life to his family, especially to his three grandchildren. He was always there to see their soccer games. He even accompanied the family when they traveled out of town for the kids games. His children meant everything to him.
Mario's Life Celebration will begin with a Service on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at 10:00 am at New Life Church located at 2701 The American Rd SE, Rio Rancho, 87124. Mario will be laid to rest at 12:45 pm at the Santa Fe National Cemetery located at 501 N Guadalupe St, Santa Fe, 87501.
