Mary Gonzales

Mary Gonzales, 92, passed away on Saturday, December 4, 2021.

Mary, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, was born on January 11, 1929 to Herminio Sedillo and Juanita Mares Sedillo. Mary was the third of five children.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years Manuel Gonzales, grandson Mauricio Chavez, sister Margaret Sanchez, and brothers: Joe Sedillo and Johnny Sedillo.

She is survived by her children: Manny Gonzales, Mary Ellen Gonzales, Teri Baird (Scott), Vickie Lucero (Juan), David Gonzales (Becky), Loretta Glaser (David); sister Stella Madrid; 17 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

Mary graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1948. She then worked as a secretary at ONM until she was married to the love of her life Manuel in 1956.

The kitchen was often a dance floor where mom and dad showed much affection for each other. Although Mary never received a college degree, she served faithfully for 65 years as the CEO of the Gonzales family residence, where she was an expert teacher, trainer, coach, counselor, veterinarian, referee, cook, cheerleader, doctor, spiritual advisor, and so much more. She healed many scraped knees and hearts and wiped away more than her fair share of tears and butts. She made our house a home. One that never turned away anyone in need. Somehow she always had another blanket and pillow and a hot meal with freshly made tortillas for the many friends or relatives in need. She made her modest dinner table one of abundance because of her abundance because of her love and passion for family.

Mary was a woman of great strength. A cancer survivor in 1971 with six young children yet to be raised, along with much unspoken adversity. She ran the race with perserverance keeping her eyes fixed on Jesus the author and perfecter of her faith. We will miss you dearly, but we will not mourn as those without hope. See you later.

Mary's Life Celebration will begin with a Visitation on Sunday, December 19, 2021 from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm at Reflection of Life® Chapel of Reflections Funerals & Life Celebrations/Salazar Funeral Homes & Crematory located at 2400 Washington St NE, 87110. Rosary is to be recited on Monday, December 20, 2021 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church located at 1860 Griegos Rd NW, 87107. Mass will begin at 10:30 am. Mary will be laid to rest following the Mass at Mount Calvary Cemetery located at 1900 Edith Blvd NE, 87102.
