Mary Josepha Halloran Macaluso, age 88, went to be with our Lord on Friday, August 14, 2020, passing peacefully in her sleep.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Dr. Benedetto Armando Macaluso, her parents Thomas Halloran and Clara Kelly, and her sister Patricia Halloran and brother Thomas Halloran.
She is survived by her brother Michael Halloran and wife Gladys; her two sons Anthony Macaluso and wife Yen, and Nicholas Macaluso and wife Janet; her daughter Elizabeth Shiels and husband Paul Shiels; six grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Mary was a lifelong and dedicated Catholic, a beloved wife and mother, an educator, a painter, and a lover of travel, literature, and art. She was treasured by all who knew her for her generosity, intelligence, and humor, and above all for her kindness. Her life reflected a sincere love of Christ and a belief in His promises, as well as a deep love for her family and close friends.
Born in 1932, raised and educated in New York, she moved to Las Vegas, New Mexico with her husband and family in 1970, and lived in Las Vegas for 43 years, raising her family and furthering her education at Highlands University. She was especially dedicated to the cause of Catholic education, taking on the role of principle at St. Athanasius School, a small independent Catholic grade school in Las Vegas, New Mexico. After her husband passed, she moved to Albuquerque to be closer to family.
A Rosary will be held in Albuquerque at Reflections Chapel on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at 7:00 PM. A Requiem Mass will be held in Albuquerque at Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at 10:00 AM. Interment will be at St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Las Vegas, NM, on Thursday, August 20, 2020 at 11:00 AM.
Contributions may be made to Annunciation Catholic School or Catholic Charities.
Due to COVID restrictions set in place by the Governor masks are MANDATORY to attend the Rosary, Mass, and Burial. There is a capacity of 50 people allowed at the Rosary. Our Lady of Annunciation Catholic church has a capacity of 130 people allowed for the Mass.
