Mary Lou Alison

February 21, 1932 — July 23, 2018

Mary Lou Alison was born in 1932 in Albuquerque, NM, to Alex and Georgia Cleland.  She graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1950.  She married Lyman Dann Alison in 1951 and gave birth to four children, Stephen, Tyler, Dann, and Christie.  After she was married, she and Lyman lived in Alamogordo, Farmington, Roswell, Artesia, Lovington. She was widowed in 1972. Mary Lou eventually moved back to Albuquerque following Lyman's death.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and all her siblings.  She is succeeded by her three sons and daughter, five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren

She enjoyed crafts, puzzles, reading, visiting with family and friends, camping, fishing, embellishing stories, and genealogy.  Her handicrafts included doll making which led to her opening a doll shop, Land of Lilliput, in Roswell.

She was a charter member of the Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Nob Hill and attended for as long as her life and mobility allowed.  She also was a long-time member of Eastern Star.

She always enjoyed a great laugh, like any true Cleland.  The art of the story was a true craft that she enjoyed and shared.  She could embellish a good story any day of the week.  Because she always enjoyed a good story, one of her favorites. was when her sister Alice and her boyfriend (Ralph) were taking her for a walk around the neighborhood and a fire truck was approaching,  Alice instantly panicked because she knew Mary Lou had an embarrassing and totally inappropriate word for the truck.  Much to her embarrassment, she did in fact spew the offending word loudly and repeatedly. Her sister was totally embarrassed and tried to stifle any further utterance. It didn’t work. Ralph eventually married Alice despite this gaff.

Mary Lou’s Life Celebration will be a Service on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at 1:00pm at Rio Rancho Presbyterian Church, located at 1004 24th St SE, Rio Rancho, NM 87124.
