Mildred T. Martinez

December 27, 1957 — January 15, 2024

Mildred T. Martinez passed away on January 15, 2024; she was 66.

She was preceded in death by father Julian Trujillo, mother Rosita Trujillo, brothers: Ernest Trujillo, Julian Trujillo, sisters: Liz Mata, and Martha Trujillo.

Mildred was survived by her sons Reyes Martinez; Emiliano Martinez and daughter-in-law Jacquelyn Brandenburg; siblings: Lorena Justice; Connie Lopez; Elanor Trujillo; Julian Trujillo and his wife Suzie; Micheal Trujillo, Georgeanna Perez and her husband Victor, and her numerous nieces and nephews.

Mildred was born on December 27, 1957, in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Julian and Rosita Trujillo. In her final years, she lived in Torreon, New Mexico, a place with deep family roots. Mildred was known by many in her family as Aunty Pucky, as she had many nieces and nephews who grew up around her.

Mildred was born into a large family of 11 siblings; she was the second youngest among them. She was raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico, but also spent a lot of time in Torreon, New Mexico, with her family.

As a young adult, Mildred was able to travel around the world; she visited Mexico City, Hong Kong, Madrid, just to name a few. Growing up in a large family, Mildred became a strong-willed, intelligent, hardworking, caring, and opinionated woman. She never shied away from difficult conversations and always made sure everyone knew where she stood.

Later in life, Mildred had two sons, Emiliano and Reyes. From that point, Mildred’s primary purpose in life was to raise her two sons. She gave them everything she could and taught them how to navigate life, instilling her best traits in them. They were her greatest joy, and her role as their mother was the most rewarding part of her life.

Mildred worked in many different roles throughout her years; she worked for the Catholic Church, the state of New Mexico, and eventually retired as a designer with the New Mexico Gas Company. Mildred loved retirement; it gave her the freedom to work on all her projects, from renovating a small house in Torreon to adopting and protecting numerous neighborhood cats.

There was nothing Mildred was scared to do; she would tell you she was afraid of heights, yet you would catch her on a ladder painting or working on her roof. She had an eye for antiques and loved to “wheel and deal”, she would always brag about how little she bought things for. She loved to go to family events where she would gossip with the family, tell stories, and crack jokes.

Mildred's personality was truly one of a kind. Her independence was an inspiration to many, and she always marched to the beat of her own drum, living life on her own terms and encouraging others to do the same. She will be remembered not only for the life she led, but for the love she gave so freely and the strength she showed in every aspect of life.

Mildred T. Martinez leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and individuality. Her memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her, and her spirit will live on in the hearts of her beloved sons and the many lives she touched. She will be dearly missed, but the light she brought into this world will never fade.
