Moises "Moe" Dauber Jr.

Moises (Moe) Dauber, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home, the morning of December 6, 2018, lovingly surrounded by his family.

Moe was born on March 18, 1928 to the late Moises Dauber Sr. and Lucia Gallegos Dauber. Moe grew up in Albuquerque with his late siblings: Joe Dauber, Benjamin Dauber, Frances Tita Esquibel, Tom C’de Baca, and Albert C’de Baca.

Moe is survived by the love of his life, Carmen. They were married for 69 years. Moe and Carmen met at Albuquerque High School and were married February 12, 1949. They had two daughters who they lost in infancy: Judith Ann and Juliette. Moe is survived by his two children: Kathy Dauber Altman and her spouse, Dr. Alan Altman; and Dennis Dauber. He is survived by five grandchildren: Galen Dauber, Dr. Ryan Altman and Hannah, Kelly Altman, Dr. Kyle Altman and Dr. Hunter Altman, Mara Dauber and partner, Abbey Roth; and his two great-granddaughters: Harper Faith and James Elizabeth. Moe gained a sister in Lottie Chavez when he married Carmen. He is survived by many more for whom he was a father figure, including Lottie’s children Frank and Rick Chavez, Lillian Estrada, and the late Eileen Gregg. Moe is also survived by his best friends and compadres Carmen and Dr. Paul Franco.

Moe Dauber enlisted in the United States Navy in 1945, served his country for five years, and was a member of the Navy Baseball Team. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Moe began a 30-year career with the Albuquerque Fire Department. At the time he retired from the Department in 1980, he held the rank of Deputy Fire Chief, Second in Command.

Moe gave his service to the the City of Albuquerque and his heart to his family. He dedicated himself to his passions and to sharing them with his loved ones. Moe and his wife, Carmen, travelled the country and the world, visiting Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, Canada, and countries across Europe. Moe spent endless hours on the banks of lakes and rivers across New Mexico and Colorado, teaching his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews how to fish. Spending time with friends from the North Valley Fishing Club brought him great joy. Incredibly creative, Moe was at peace painting and drawing. He painted landscapes, drew personalized coloring pages for his grandchildren, and published cartoons in a national fireman’s publication. Moe knew how to fix anything. He shared these talents with his family, holding us together in more ways than one. His incredible capacity for tinkering in his garage led to creations like “The MoZooca,” I and II. Moe loved watching sports, especially when his grandchildren were playing. He and Carmen rarely missed a soccer game or wrestling match, often traveling across state lines to support their grandchildren. While Moe most often opened himself up to others as a humble listening ear, his humor was unmatched and his storytelling, unbeatable. His jokes and stories were a gift to everyone around him. Above all, Moe was an uncompromising and faithful caregiver.

Moe Dauber led a fulfilled life, a successful career, and a solid family life. He lived the life of a Blessed man, always willing to reach out where he was needed. Moe loved generously and unwaveringly. We are all stronger for it and we will be forever grateful. While his family remains heartbroken, they are thankful for a lifetime of experiences shared with him and endless gratitude for being a part of his life. He was loved dearly and will be missed greatly.

Pallbearers include Galen Dauber, Ryan Altman, Kelly Altman, Kyle Altman, Mara Dauber, and Rick Dauber.

Honorary pallbearers include Dr. Alan Altman, Lillian and Dan Estrada, Rick and Trish Chavez, Frank and Carleen Chavez, Jeannette and Ralph Sanchez, Lilly Pacheco, Lulu and Gerald Padilla, Cynthia Brown, Billy Dauber, and Beverly Baird.

Grateful thanks to the many years of care given by Dr. Russell Schultz, Dr. Susan Guo, Dr. Doug Clark, Dr. Jeff Dorf. The staff at NMCC including Jaz Garcia, Carmen Garcia, Marcia DeJaynes, Ignacio Alba, Carla Zan, Veronica Sianu, and Elise Larson made Moe smile continuously through his visits. Moe's Life Celebration will be a special Firemen’s Funeral at Our Lady of Assumption Church, 811 Guaymas Pl. NE on Friday, December 14, 2018. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am, Rosary at 10:00 am, Mass at 11:00 am with interment immediately following at Mount Calvary Cemetery at 1900 Edith Blvd NE.
