Odela J. Moya

August 6, 1964 — October 11, 2021

Odela Janet Moya, age 57, was called home on Monday, October 11, 2021, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with family by her side.

Odela is preceded in death by her parents Jose Leon and Adelina Moya; brothers: Robert and Charlie; sisters: Odila Moya, Jeanet Moya; brother-in-law Augustin Maes; nephew Martin Maes and niece Christy Maes.

Odela is survived by her son Jonas L. Moya; husband Anthony Romero; sisters: Aneda Boyland and husband George of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Dora Maes of Tucumcari, New Mexico, Imogene Easter of Omaha, Nebraska, Joanna Moya-May and husband Richard of Clovis, New Mexico; brother Ralph Moya and Howard Moya of Tucumcari, New Mexico; sister-in-law Bernadette Moya of Edgewood, New Mexico, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Odela was born on August 6, 1964, in Tucumcari, New Mexico, to Jose Leon and Adelina Moya. She graduated from Tucumcari High School in 1982, where she held several student positions her senior year, including Band Queen and Homecoming Queen. Following her high school graduation, Odela moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, to attend The University of New Mexico. After graduation, Odela worked for Presbyterian Hospital for more than 20 years, in several roles. Her latest assignment was as a Nursing Admin and Staffing Coordinator.

Outside of work, Odela was an active member of the Catholic Daughters of America organization and the Stewardship committee at Immaculate Conception parish. In addition, Odela taught catechism at Our Lady of Guadalupe parish for several years, where she enjoyed teaching young students about Jesus and his disciples.

Although Odela was the youngest of her family, she was often referred to as “Mama” by her brothers and sisters. She earned that reputation by taking care of others, planning family events, and always being available for those she cared most for in her life. Material items were not of importance to Odela. She rather enjoyed the free things in life, like God, family, and serving others.

Odela's Life Celebration will begin with a Visitation on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 8:30am at San Felipe De Neri parish located at 2005 N Plaza St NW, 87104. Rosary will be recited at 9:00am. Mass will begin at 10:00am.
