Paul Salas

Corporal Paul Salas, passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at the age of 76.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents Eduardo D. and Veronica C. Salas, brother Pete Salas, brother-in-law Leeroy Montoya and son Paul J. Salas.

He was survived by his wife Mary Salas; daughters: Megan Garcia (Jeremy), Lisa Peters (Bob), Cheryl Franzen; two sisters: Andrea Blea (Tony), Veronica Montoya, seven grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and a great-grandson on the way.

Paul was born March 17, 1946 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to the late Eduardo and Veronica. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. Second Battalion, Third Marine Division, where he became part of a lifelong brotherhood. Paul served in the conflict known as the Vietnam War in 1965. Forty-seven years later, he tracked down eighty percent of the men he served with and reunited them in September of 2012, rekindling friendships thought to be lost.

An accomplished Engineer, Tradesman, and Machinist, he loved sharing his overwhelming knowledge and helping others in need. He was known for his bold jokes and having the loudest laugh in the room. He loved his animals, bowling, fishing and the craps table.

Paul will be laid to rest on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at 2:30pm at the Santa Fe National Cemetery located at 901 N Guadalupe St, Santa Fe, 87501.
