Rex Owen Lewis has joined the lord and his family in heaven on January 19, 2024. He graced us with his presence for 86 wonderful years.
He was such an amazing man and cowboy, that was always giving and kind to everyone he ever met. He was a Navy veteran and an electrician by trade, he owned his own business, Apollo electric that he started in 1972, and was a proud member of the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Posse for 35 years. He was a true horseman, riding Grand Entry in the Albuquerque State Fair for many years with the Posse. He was an extraordinarily hard working man of many talents. He enjoyed his pontoon boat and fishing, loved the outdoors and living in the mountains.
He was a beloved father, husband, devoted friend, uncle, grandfather and great grandfather that will be gravely missed.
He is survived by his daughter Alaine Lewis, niece Debbie Brown, wife Carole Lewis, her sons Gregory Matthews, Mark Matthews, Erik Matthews and wife Tammie Matthews, for whom Rex had a deep adoration, granddaughters Braeden Matthews, and Kylie Matthews, son Martin Lewis, granddaughter Crystal Duquette, and great grandfather to Constance, Brenden and Paul Duquette.
There will be a military burial on Friday, February 2, 2024, at 11:00am at the Santa Fe National Cemetery located at 501 N Guadalupe St. 87501. Celebration of life will be held at the sheriff posse grounds, at a later date.
Pallbearers will be Gregory Matthews, Erik Matthews, Mark Matthews, Bryson McCathron, Joe Velarde, and Mike Armijo.
