Rita E. Garley, a beacon of light and love, passed away on Monday, February 5, 2024, at the age of 91 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Rita was preceded in death by her husband Gilbert Garley, brother Abel Luna, parents Frank Luna and Luisa Luna.
She is survived by her children: Steven Gallegos (Carole), Jolene Gallegos (Michael), Joseph Gallegos (Linda), Julianne Gallegos; grandchildren: Rebecca (Rodney), Jonathan (Sarah), Oliver (Allison), Brandon and Estella, and great grandchildren Reagan, Emerson, Leighton, Clara and Jack.
Born on August 22, 1932, in Los Lunas, Rita was a vibrant soul whose zest for life was unmistakable. Her passion for life was being with her family. She enjoyed the clatter of bowling pins, the thrill of sports, the joy of dance and music, and of course Casino. Rita was a true people person; her infectious laughter and warm presence ensured she never met a stranger.
Her love for animals was pure and unwavering, just as her enjoyment in collecting Knick knacks, family photos, saints, and rosaries. Devoted to her faith, she also found serenity in traveling on cruises, sailing the seas with the same grace with which she lived her life. Above all, Rita's heart belonged to her husband Gilbert, cherished children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, who were her world.
Remembered as loving, thoughtful, and courageous, Rita's legacy will continue to inspire those who were blessed to know her. Her memory will be cherished and celebrated, as she dances her way into eternity.
Rita’s life celebration will begin with a rosary to be recited on Friday, February 9, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. at Salazar Mortuary located at 400 Third St SW, Albuquerque, NM 87102. Mass will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 9:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church located at 619 Copper Ave NW, 87102.
We would like to acknowledge and thank the staff at Ravenna Assisted Living during the past months of her life.
