Robert E. De Kinder, Jr. slipped the surly bonds of earth in the early afternoon of January 16, 2019 in Las Cruces, NM.
He was born on January 18, 1935 to Lillian Mynon (née Duncan) and Robert E. De Kinder, Sr. in Chickasha, Oklahoma. He attended Chickasha Public Schools, graduating in 1952. He earned a bachelor’s degree at The University of Oklahoma and a master’s degree at The University of New Mexico. He was an Operations Analyst for the Department of the Army for 26 years, working at White Sands Missile Range, NM; Fort Leavenworth, KS; and Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD. He also taught computer science classes at New Mexico State University. In his retirement, Bob was very active in the Las Cruces community, volunteering for numerous organizations including Doña Ana Lyric Opera, the Republican Party, SpaceX, High Tech Consortium of Southern New Mexico, and various STEM programs in the state. He dreamed of producing movies with a true hard science theme.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his daughter, Roberta Marie.
He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth A. De Kinder; his son, Dr. Robert S. Childs; his former wife, Mary A. De Kinder (née Holmstead); his brother and wife, Samuel T. and Cynthia De Kinder; his sister, Jane E. Kidwell (née De Kinder); and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Robert's Life Celebration will begin with a Service on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at 11:30 am at Reflections Chapel located at 2400 Washington St NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110. Interment will follow Service at the Santa Fe National Cemetery located at 501 N Guadalupe St, Santa Fe, NM 87501.
