Dr. Robert V. Guzowski (age 70) passed away peacefully at his home in Albuquerque, New Mexico on April 27, 2018. He was born on September 7, 1947 in Springfield, Massachusetts, spent his early life in Indian Orchard and attended Myrtle Street School (the oldest school in the city,) and graduated from Classical High School in 1965.
Robert received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Massachusetts with a major in geology and then went on to Syracuse University where he completed a PhD in Geology. He taught at Alfred University for a short time then went on to work as a consulting geologist for a number of energy companies. Eventually he settled in New Mexico working as a Senior Staff Scientist for the Science Applications International Corporation in Albuquerque. One of his more challenging projects was as a team member trying to determine a safe way to store and label nuclear wastes for the next 20,000 years.
Robert continued his interest in science throughout his life and was a benefactor to the New Mexico Museum of Natural History.
Robert was the son of the late Dr. Victor Guzowski and Helen Guzowski and is survived to his two brothers, Richard of Northampton, MA and Bruce of Bluffton, South Carolina. He also leaves three nephews Roger, Thomas and Drew.
