Romolo "Ron" Turrietta

March 8, 1934 — August 10, 2023

Loving father, grandfather, godfather, brother, and husband, Romolo "Ron" Turrietta, passed away from natural causes on August 10, 2023, at the age of 89.

He will be missed greatly by his family and wife, Logie Turrietta. He was born on March 8, 1934, in Albuquerque, NM, to Regina Turrietta (née Barboa) and Nestor Turrietta. Romolo grew up on a farm in Los Padillas with his two older sisters, Juanita "Jennie" Gonzales and Patricia "Patsy" Romo. He proudly raised two daughters, Regina "Gina" Garcia and Mary Ann Condit, with their mother, Annabelle Baca. We find comfort in knowing he has joined his beloved daughter Mary Ann, who preceded him in death.

Romolo attended Ernie Pyle Middle School, where he played on the basketball team and proudly scored the first points in the school’s history. As a young man, he enjoyed riding and training horses and working on the family farm. In 1953 he graduated from Albuquerque High School. He went on to complete the fire academy and joined the Albuquerque Fire Department in 1955. He served the city for 30 years, with the last few years of his term as the chief’s driver. After his retirement, he enjoyed having breakfast nearly every morning at the Village Inn to stay in touch with his fireman buddies and many friends. He loved to travel with his wife, Logie, to visit his many children and grandchildren across the country. They especially enjoyed going on cruises with his best friend and cousin, Manuel and his wife Jenny Chavez.

Romolo married the love of his life, Logie Miera, in 2002. They knew each other from their early school years and reconnected in 1990 while walking the track at West Mesa High School. They immediately enjoyed each other’s company, and their love quickly grew. Through their partnership, he gained many stepchildren who added much joy and love to his life. They moved to Rio Rancho to be closer to family. They loved to go dancing and were often asked to lead La Marcha at weddings. He was a devoted grandfather and was involved in helping raise and nurture his grandchildren, who were the joy of his life. Faith was important, and he was a devout Catholic and proud member of the St. Anne Parish and then, later, the Holy Rosary Parish. He enjoyed taking care of their garden, going on walks, spending time with family, and having fun at the casino. In his later years, he loved doing word searches, talking over old times, and playing solitaire on his iPad.

Romolo is preceded in death by his daughter Mary Ann Condit, sister Jennie Gonzales, nephew Paul Gonzales, and great-grandson Joshua Martinez.

Romolo is survived by his wife Logie Turrietta; sister Patsy Romo; daughter Regina Garcia and husband Dr. Dennis Garcia; son-in-law Carl Condit; siblings-in-law Mary Jean Baca and Frank Baca; step-children: Boni Miera (Christine), Leonard Miera (Theresa), David Miera, Greg Miera (Becky), Lisa Sedillo (Gabe), grandchildren: Daniel Sanchez (April), Alisha De La Cruz (Jeff), Anissa Rose (Nicholas), Ariana Garcia, Alexys Garcia, Stephanie Griego (Steve), Michelle Garland (Nocona), Kimberly Condit (Kyle), Katherine Condit (Alaina); great-grandchildren: Lyla, Areya, Kiera, Jesslyn, Anthony, Gracie, Adrian, Andrew, Damian, Mia, Zoe, Amelia, and Thomas. As well as many loving step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren that he loved and cherished as his own.
