Ruth Marie Douglas "Ruthie"

Ruth Marie Douglas, known affectionately to friends and family as "Ruthie," passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at the age of 68 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

She is preceded in death by her husband John Douglas, and parents Joe and Viola Romero.

Ruthie is survived by her siblings: Joe A. Romero, Jr. and wife Louise, Claudia Maples and husband Barry, Rebecca Akins and husband Robert (deceased), Danny Romero and wife Cindy, Liz Piciachia and husband Mark, Reuben Romero, longtime friend and companion Carole, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a few great-great-nieces and great-great-great nephews.

Born on July 11, 1956, in Fort Morgan, Colorado, on a farm with her aunties, uncles, cousins, and animals galore.

Ruthie's love for the outdoors was evident to anyone who spent time with her. She and John had a passion for fishing and they always had a houseful of pets. Her love of animals was evident with her heart and home open to any creature in need.

A true lover of life's simple pleasures, Ruthie enjoyed western movies, which she could watch and rewatch with the same enthusiasm every time. Her palate was as adventurous as her spirit; she had an affinity for New Mexican and Asian cuisines, never missing an opportunity to try a new dish or share a favorite recipe. 

Proudly independent and with a strong faith in God, she faced life's challenges head-on, without losing her smile. Ruthie was an inspiration to all. She found joy in helping others, whether it was people or animals, always extending a helping hand without expecting anything in return.

Ruthie's presence was a gift, her kind-heartedness a treasure and her generosity knew no bounds. She touched the lives of many, leaving behind a legacy of love, compassion, and the enduring message that the greatest joys in life are found in giving to others.

As we say goodbye to Ruthie, we celebrate a life well-lived, full moments that were as vibrant and beautiful as the person she was. Her memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who were privileged to know her. Ruth Marie Douglas will be deeply missed, but her spirit will forever be a guiding light in the lives she touched.

Ruthie’s Life Celebration will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 10:00am at Reflections Chapel located at 2400 Washington St. NE, 87110.
