Shantel M. Abeyta-Medina

June 2, 1990 — September 28, 2022

Shantel Marie Abeyta-Medina peacefully left this world on Wednesday, September 28, 2022.

She was preceded in death by her beloved father Carlos Gilbert Abeyta, Sr., adored brother Carlos Gilbert Abeyta, Jr., maternal grandparents: Gilbert and Francis Gallegos and paternal grandfather Ted Abeyta.

Shantel is survived by her spouse of 11 years and the love of her life Kenneth F. Medina, Jr.; mother Gertrude D. Abeyta; sons-her miracles: Kenneth F. Medina III, Jerome X. Medina; sister Vania Abeyta; grandmother Vera Abeyta; nephew Carlos Gilbert Abeyta III and numerous cousins, uncles, aunties, and many other family members and friends that loved her.

Shantel was born on June 2, 1990. Shantel was a gentle soul who surrounded everyone she encountered with light and kindness. She not only brought light and kindness to her loved ones, but she also saw light and kindness in those around her.

As a child, Shantel used to run barefoot in the sunshine and dance with the butterflies. Even as a young child, she knew butterflies were messengers from God and she always took the time to sit with them. As she grew older, she never lost her affection for butterflies or her ability to find the magic in simple things like feathers, flowers, and mother nature. She knew on this earth we are surrounded by miracles, and she never took that for granted. Her sons were her most cherished miracles and she loved them with all her being.

We are certain she entered the celestials encompassed in warm glimmering light and upon the rainbow wings of butterflies. Shall her last breath have been a breath that was taken in solace and certainty, knowing that her loved ones will continue to breathe her name, and speak her stories. Her light will shine on through us. We are Shantel's prisms. The world she has left and those she wished not to leave will continue to feel her love and see her rainbow. Every time we see a butterfly, we know it will be her, assuring us how much she loves us and reminding us to not forget the little miracles we encounter every single day.

“Fly with the butterflies and know that you will live forever in our hearts and memories.”
