Sophie G. Montano

Sophie G. Montano was a beacon of love and kindness, she passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Sophie was preceded in death by her husband Manuel Montano, parents Patricio and Rofina Gonzales, daughters-in-law: Charlotte Montano, Elenor Montano; grandchildren: Ben Montano, Eric Montano, Angelo Chavez, Adam Chavez as well as brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her children Eloy, Wallie, Louie, Michael, Sammy, Joe, Inez, Rita, Anna; daughters-in-law: Maricruz Montano, Lucille Montano; sons-in-law: Don Garcia, Chris Garcia, William Chavez, also grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Born on November 5, 1934, in Madrid, New Mexico, Sophie's life was a testament to the enduring power of love and family.

Sophie's happiest moments were spent at the ranch with her beloved husband and family. When cooking breakfast, she enjoyed listening to her husband fine tune his guitar and on other days listening to him play his piano. They shared many laughs and stories under the stars.

They enjoyed being involved in the church community and would frequently travel to Glorieta, New Mexico to attend a bible study group throughout the year. On Monday nights Sophie and her husband would also volunteer to sing Spanish music at the bible study they attended in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she embraced her purpose with a full heart, always placing her family above all else. Her home was adorned with an exquisite collection of dolls, each one cherished and cared for, much like the relationships she nurtured throughout her life. Sophie will be remembered for her tenderness, her kind spirit, and her thoughtful presence which brought comfort and joy to all who knew her. Her legacy of love and dedication to her family will continue to flourish in their hearts forever.

Sophie’s life celebration will begin with a visitation on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. at Salazar Mortuary located at 400 Third St. SW Albuquerque, NM 87102. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.  A final viewing will be held on Monday, March 11, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church located at 1732 State Rd 14 Golden, NM 87047. Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m. Sophie will be laid to rest following the mass at Golden Cemetery located at Turquoise Trail, Golden NM 87047.

Pallbearers will be Manuel Montano, Martin Garcia, Willie Chavez, Sammy Montano, Mikey Montano, and Matthew Montano.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Leo Sandoval, and Anthony Garcia.

MFA parking lot will be available for overflow parking.
