Tillie Madrid

Matilde "Tillie" Madrid passed away at  Lovelace Hospital after a short illness on Monday, December 27, 2022.

She was predeceased by her husband Louis, son George and great-grandson Fabian Lopez.

Tillie is survived by her daughter Louisa, son Mark and wife Anna, 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, sister Celina Silva, brother Pete Chavez and wife Lindell, sister Mary Barros and husband Jimmy, and many nieces and nephews.

Tillie Madrid was born on June 1, 1932 in Vaughn, New Mexico.

She was the third of eight children born to Alejandro and Carolina Chavez. Tillie married Louis Madrid in 1951 and they had 3 children: Louisa, George and Mark.

Together, Tillie and Louis were business owners beginning in the late 50’s; having owned The Casa Blanca and later the El Madrid Lounge for more than 40 years, which she ran until retiring in 2013.

When Hollywood came knocking, several movies were filmed at the bar with many A-List stars in leading rolls.

Tillie had a great sense of humor, she loved to laugh and make others laugh with her, most of all she enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family.

Tillie’s Life Celebration will begin with a Visitation on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at 5:00pm at Salazar mortuary 400 Third St SW, 87102.  Rosary will be recited at 6:30 pm. Mass will be held on Friday, January 14, 2022 at 10:30 am at St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 1502 Sara Rd., Rio Rancho NM  87124.  Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery 1900 Edith Blvd NE, 87102.

Pallbearers will be Michael Barros, Joseph Madrid, Eric Chavez, Peter Chavez, Louis Lopez and Alejandro Chavez.
