Tomasita M. Padilla, 95, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 14, 2023.
Tomasita is survived by her children: Rubel Otero, Angie Padilla, Placida Padilla, Lisa Chavez; 14 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
She was born on November 22, 1928, Tomasita's life was a testament to the enduring power of selfless love and the simple joys that make life worth living. Her unwavering dedication to her family and her faith-filled heart shaped a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew her.
Tomasita's purpose in life was crystal clear—she was a mom in the truest sense of the word. Her children were the center of her universe, and she did everything within her power to nurture and support them. Her work history was not defined by titles or accolades but by the countless sacrifices she made and the unconditional love she provided. Her association with her family and community was marked by her tireless commitment to putting others before herself.
Her interests were as vibrant and endearing as her personality. Tomasita loved to dance to the rhythm of ranchitas, her feet tapping and twirling with a joy that was contagious. She had a fondness for the simple pleasures of life, such as savoring her favorite dishes—eggs and green chile—which she often enjoyed at local favorites Compadres Restaurant and Abuelitos Restaurant. Tomasita's loved to travel to Ruidoso; she cherished her trips to explore its beauty and indulge in the excitement of the casino, where she enjoyed the lively atmosphere.
Tomasita's non-materialistic nature was evident in every aspect of her life. She was known for her willingness to give the shirt off her back to anyone in need, a gesture that spoke volumes about her character. Her beauty was not just skin deep; it radiated from within, a reflection of her kind and strong spirit. She embodied selflessness, always putting the needs of others ahead of her own, and her presence was a comforting reminder of the power of unconditional love. Her faith carried her through life's challenges and illuminated the path for those around her.

Tomasita’s Life Celebration will begin with a Rosary on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at 7:00 pm at Salazar Mortuary (400 Third St. SW, 87102). Mass will be held on Friday, December 22, 2023, at 10:00 am at St. Augustine Catholic Church (71 Tribal Rd 35, 87022) Tomasita will be laid to rest following the Mass at Los Padillas Cemetery.
