William L. Chapel Iii

William L. Chapel III, 81, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2017.
He is preceded in death by his parents William L. Chapel Jr. and Winifred B. Chapel.
William is survived by his wife, of 38 years, Joan F. Chapel; son Lowell M. Conley and wife Stacey K.; daughters Catherine Chapel and Sharon B. Chapel; brother Jason A. Chapel and wife Alice; sister Patricia C. Middleton and husband Philip M.; grandchildren Alexis Conley and Sean Chapel; sister-in-law Jean woods; brother-in-law Richard woods and wife Barbara; nephews Philip C. Middleton and wife Kim, Bruce A. Middleton and wife Gina; and many grand nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Forestry and graduated with an ROTC commission in the Army. He served in Germany and stateside then began a career in the U.S. Forest Service serving nearly 40 years. After retirement Bill pursued a career that made him the happiest - Building and flying the Smokey Bear Balloon. He traveled all over the U.S. and some foreign countries promoting the message of Smokey Bear.
William's Life Celebration will begin with a Graveside Service on Friday, March 3, 2017 at 12:45 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Friends of Smokey Bear Balloon at 8400 Menual Blvd. NE #628A, Albuquerque, NM 87112.
